Light straw in color, this Sauvignon Blanc exhibits the floral, green melon and dry herbal notes typical of this warmer growing region. Aromas honeysuckle, kiwi and clover lead into flavors of ripe mandarin, grapefruit and lemongrass. Finishing with a sense of minerality and crisp acidity, this wine is totally dry and focuses on the grape varietal character without any malolactic fermentation or oak complexities.

This blend was sourced primarily from two very different vineyards and their complementary characteristics offer a wine of great complexity. 45% came from the organic Haiku Vineyard in Mendocino County, planted on sandy loam alongside the famed Russian River as it flows through the Ukiah Valley. 41% came from the Lyon Vineyard in northern Alexander Valley, where the grapes are grown organically and biodynamically on the sandy loam alluvial soils along the Russian River near Cloverdale. The balance of the fruit came from a selection of carefully farmed organic vineyards in the Lodi AVA.
After a record wet winter, the 2023 growing season was long and cool. Bud-break was a bit late due to cool and wet soils, and the ensuing summer was dry and warm, but without any significant heat spikes as were experienced in 2022. Crop loads were normal to high, further lengthening the ripening period. 2023 will go down as one of the latest harvested vintages in recent memory. The long, relatively cool season allowed for a very long hang time which fully developed color and phenolic structure in the reds and retained bright acidity and fruit density in white varietals. The quality of the resulting wine is very high.
The fruit was night picked and delivered to the winery in the early morning. Grapes were gently pressed and cold settled, then racked to clean, low solids juice and fermented to complete dryness at cold temperatures in stainless steel tanks with yeast selected to accentuate varietal notes. The new wine was racked away from the yeast lees, fined with bentonite clay for stability and held cold until bottling to cold stabilize the wine naturally. In order to highlight the primary fruit character, no malolactic ferment or oak exposure were conducted, and as is the case with all of the Lifevine wines, no sugars were added.
