VINEY ARD NOTES:
This wine was made exclusively from the Lyon vineyard in northern Alexander Valley. The grapes are grown organically and biodynamically on the sandy loam alluvial soils along the Russian River near Cloverdale. Harvested 8/18, 8/23, 8/24, 2022.
2022 was a strange vintage featuring almost every kind of weather pattern. After another dry winter, spring saw a normal budbreak with quite variable weather patterns. A severe April frost reduced crop levels, sometimes as much as 50%. The lighter crop enJOyed a relatively mild and consistent growing season until a triple digit heat wave hit during the Labor Day weekend and forced many growers to pick faster than predicted. Because Sauvignon blanc is harvested early, we picked Just before the heat which helped retain acidity and varietal character.
Organic fruit was night picked and delivered to winery in early morning. Pressed with a bladder press, cold settled, racked to clean, low solids Juice and fermented cool in stainless steel tanks to accentuate varietal notes. New wine was racked away from the yeast lees, fined with bentonite for stability and held cold until bottling. No malolactic ferment.
